Allergen Policy

At Wessex Mill we produce all our products with the utmost care to ensure they are safe for you to enjoy. Parts of the Wessex Mill range is especially designed to cater for allergen-aware diets. As such we carry out extensive risk assessment and/or testing regarding the following allergens:

 

Nuts

Doves Farm Foods Ltd is a nut free site. This term is used to indicate that all nuts (both tree nuts and peanuts) are strictly prohibited in the entire area of land occupied by the business and under our control, including car park, canteen and factory offices. This means there are no nuts or nut-containing products on site. Whilst we do not test raw ingredients or finished products for traces of nuts, we do carry out a full risk assessment of our suppliers.

The exception to this applies to certain Wessex Mill products where we test raw materials or finished products specifically for peanuts. See Other Allergens below for more details.

 

Sesame

Wessex Mill is based at Doves Farm Foods, which is a sesame free site. This term is used to indicate that sesame and sesame containing ingredients and products are strictly prohibited in the entire area of land occupied by the business and under our control, including car park, canteen and factory offices. This means there are no sesame-containing products on site. We carry out a full risk assessment of all suppliers prior to approval and testing for sesame is based on risk assessment.

 

Other allergens

We carry out a full risk assessment for raw materials with regards to all 14 recognised allergens listed in the Food Information for Consumers Regulation (EU).
These allergens are:

  • Cereals containing gluten; namely wheat (such as spelt and khorasan wheat), rye, barley, oats
  • Crustaceans; for example prawns, crabs, lobster, crayfish
  • Eggs
  • Fish
  • Peanuts
  • Soybeans
  • Milk (including lactose)
  • Nuts; namely almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecan nuts, Brazil nuts, pistachio nuts, macadamia (or Queensland) nuts
  • Celery (including celeriac)
  • Mustard
  • Sesame
  • Sulphur dioxide/sulphites
  • Lupin, which includes lupin seeds and flour
  • Mollusc for example clams, mussels, whelks, oysters, snails and squid
