Apple Crumble

A classic apple crumble made with cooking apples. This quantity makes a generous, family sized dessert although you could make 2 smaller crumbles and freeze one for another day.

Ingredients

  • 600g cooking apples
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 6 tbsp water
  • 300g Wessex Mill Plain White Flour
  • 200g soft brown sugar
  • 200g butter

Equipment

  • 1 x 1.5lt/3-pint oven dish
  • 1 x mixing bowl

Method

180°C, Fan 160°C, 350°F, Gas 4

  • Pre-heat the oven.

  • Peel, core and slice the apples into a 1.5lt/3-pint oven dish.

  • Add the caster sugar and water then stir to mix.

  • Bake the apples for 20 minutes.

  • Remove from the oven and stir.

  • Measure the flour and brown sugar into a mixing bowl.

  • Slice the butter into small cubes, add them to the bowl and using a fork, roughly mix it into the flour to create lumpy breadcrumbs.

  • Spread the flour mixture over the fruit.

  • Bake for 55-60 minutes.
