Quick to make with minimal ingredients, this delicious soda bread requires no kneading or proving and takes minutes to prepare. Delicious served as an accompaniment to soups and stews. The recipe will also work with all our other bread flours.
- 250g Wessex Mill Strong White Bread Flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 50g mixed seeds
- 250g buttermilk
- plus oil, for tray
- 1 mixing bowl
- 1 baking tray
240˚C, Fan 220˚C, 475˚F, Gas 9
Pre-heat the oven and rub some oil around the inside of a baking tray or insert a baking liner.
Place the flour, salt and bicarbonate of soda in a mixing bowl and stir them together.
Add the seeds and stir again.
Pour the buttermilk into the bowl and fold together gently until all the dry flour is incorporated. It will be very sticky.
Once it is all together, take the dough out of the bowl and roll it around in some dry flour to make it easier to handle, then place on the baking tray.
Using a sharp knife, cut a deep cross into the top of the loaf. Soda bread does not require any proving.
Bake for 25-30 minutes.
